Roald Dahl was more than just a children’s book author, though he was arguably one of the best that ever laid pen to paper. But did you know that he was also an ace fighter pilot, adventurous backpacker, art collector, and medical inventor?

We learned all of this, and more, while reading Who Was Roald Dahl?
I’ve teamed up with twenty plus bloggers for a series on The Who Was? ® What Was? ® Where Is? ® Books. We’re providing readers with helpful language arts and history resources to use in conjunction with these fabulous books!
I was so impressed by this book. It was packed with interesting and fun information about Roald Dahl. I have loved his books since I was a child but I never knew much about the man himself. What I learned made me want to read more!
Here are just a few amazing little facts that we learned.
- He loved to make up new words and created more than 250 new words!
- He did all of his writing in a little hut in his backyard.
- He wrote all of his books by hand because he didn't know how to type.
- He was 6'6" tall!
Books That He Wrote
I'm rather embarrassed to admit that I didn't know about half of these books. Even worse, I knew the book James and the Giant Peach but I didn't know that Roald Dahl wrote it!
So embarrassing!
Here's a list of most of the children's books that he's authored so that you don't find yourself in the same embarrassing position I did!
