Language Arts

The Good and the Beautiful Language Arts

The Good and the Beautiful Language Arts Level 1 covers phonics, reading, writing, spelling, literature, grammar, punctuation, art, and geography all in ONE beautiful and comprehensive language arts course. This curriculum is completely open-and-go so you don't have to plan anything! Simply print the materials, open the coursebook to the first lesson, and begin!

Handwriting

This handwriting workbook, offered by Miniature Masterminds, covers an entire year of manuscript handwriting practice. If your child already understands how to form letters correctly, you will not need this resource unless you'd like an additional year of practice.

Math

This full-year math curriculum from Miniature Masterminds contains 188 pages that cover a full 36 week school year. It is also super printer friendly (black and white) while also being fun and engaging for kids to use.

History

Under the Home offers a wonderful 1st-grade history curriculum using Stories of Great Americans for Little Americans. This is a vintage text that we have read through and my children loved it. They learned (and retained) so much information!

Under the Home has broken the text up into manageable daily readings and provided additional lesson resources such as vocabulary words, map work, discussion questions, hands-on activities, and more.

Science

Miniature Masterminds offers a complete 36-week science curriculum for first grade that is fun and engaging! The author recommends that you incorporate books and videos on each topic to round out the curriculum, which you can do using your local library and YouTube.

Extras

These extras are for the purpose of adding fun to your day, developing the interests of your child, or filling free time in productive ways. It's important to note that these extras are just that . . . extras. They are not required material for first grade (at least in most states–be sure to check your local state homeschooling laws!).

Art

Under the Home offers a Studio Art course that covers simple drawing methods.

Art for Kids Hub offers video tutorials on how to draw just about anything you can think of! They are great fun! Here's a sample:

Music

Under the Home has a Classical Music in Pictures course that includes 36 weeks of lessons. Each lesson has a link to the classical composition for the week, vocabulary words, activities, discussion questions, and more.

PE

PE with Joe has been recording daily PE videos for kids since March 2020. As of this post, there are 78 videos available!

Cosmic Kids Yoga is a favorite with my kids. They LOVE the videos and yoga workouts, and I find that I can turn one of these on when the day is going a little haywire and the kids will be much more settled afterward. WIN! Here's a sample:

And there you have it! Everything you need to homeschool first grade completely free!

I hope you have a wonderful first-grade year!

  2. Thank you so much for this. This is very simple but very full pack, and I know that these choices will be the choice of my daughter. I love the P.E and Art choices too. This is very timely because we are starting our homeschool next week. We appreciate you for making these.
